- Fashionista - She doesn't follow trends, she sets them. Her style is as unique as her form.
- Historic Preservation - Has her hands in design and restoration on several town projects of her own.
In 1984 when things for Thomas and Liz were good, their son Gregory and his wife had their first grandchild. In Gray Harbor good things have a way of not lasting very long. There was little more that Hya loved to do, as children often find early on, than to explore. This is perhaps not the wisest thing to do when your grandfather owns a sawmill in an old, questionable town in mid-August. Inevitably something happened, like it was bound to do. Something she can't explain and makes perfect sense to a child whose mind doesn't think of limits or consequence. She chased what she thought was the shadow of another child and that's when it first happened for her. They heard her first. Then they found her; most of her anyways. Mysteriously the other half of her leg never was and they wrote it off as being lost to the machines. Thomas, in particular, blamed himself for this. Hya didn't.
So growing up held many challenges for her and she'd be damned if she was going to let it slow her down. She decided early on sick of pity and being told what she can't do. Instead, Hya went work with her peculiarity it turning herself into her own fashion statement and a tool to do exactly as she pleased out of want and spite. Under a watchful eye she still loved to explore all of the old architecture the family seemed to have in abundance finding more questions than answers.
Graduating High School she went away to Savannah, Georgia to attend the College of Art & Design there and pick up her degree in Historic Preservation with her minor in Interior Design. In this time she also took initiative to start creating her own prosthesis making her leg reflective of her art, notably everything from a banister post motif to fluted columns. She put herself on her own pedestal. This really cemented her belief that if you think something is broken and ruined you must be either lazy, untalented, or both.
She returned home to Gray Harbor after staying there to complete her graduate degree and got a job at City Hall working with the Historic Preservation Society, and the City Zoning Commission using family connections. Did she have to work? No, after the accident she was set for life even as a child either from love or guilt, but her curiosity for these old buildings never went away knowing there is something more inside of them.
In 2013 when her grandmother died things changed and Thomas' decline put a lot of stress on the family. She promised her great-aunt that she would help her look in on him. These days while the whispers still haunt the walls Hyacinth seems more hard-nosed and driven than ever to bring these building back up to fabulous to be celebrated instead of being left to fall apart. For her it is personal, and the shadows in the walls can fuck right on off for trying to tell her different. If someone paid close attention they might wonder if she's trying to uncover something, or keep things hidden in this manner.
She has her own studio in one of the family properties and occasionally takes commissions or will consult on appointment
They keep saying natural is better. Bullshit! Style takes work, practice and a trained eye. The 5'8", raven-haired, opinionated bombshell has clearly spent a lot of time perfecting and building her style, her composure, and her appendage. Yup, the appendage too. She seems to lean on a very Neo-vintage rockabilly vibe when the designer isn't putting some of her own flair in other aspects of the look of the day that clearly has the air that she is running the room, but everyone may be invited... well... so long as they start stepping up their game.
As notable as her demeanor and her attire is her prosthetic leg. The surrogate limb has been carved and adorned by Hya herself to treat it as a glamorous work of art to stand out rather than to really try to be mundane. It might be a lathed banister spindle one day, or in air of a Queen Anne's table leg, or up to and including an actual pedestal with Doric capital.
Whether it is fear or adoration she certainly knows how to evoke a reaction out of people.
